The Viceroy Butterfly or Limenitis archippus. This specie of butterfly can be found in many North American regions. It closely resembles the Monarch Butterfly with its orange wings with black and white markings. This phenonmenon is also known as the Mullerian mimicry wherein two related species imitate each other's warning signals to avoid common predators. Both the Viceroy and the Monarch belong to the Nymphalidae family. However, Viceroy butterflies are much smaller than Monarch butterflies with a wingspan ranging from 53 to 81 millimeters.
