A national legend tells the story of the 47 Ronin who had lost their leader Asano Naganori when he was compelled to commit Seppuku or the Japanese honorable suicide for assaulting the court official Kira Yoshinaka. The group avenged the death of their master by killing Kira, and was later on sentenced to death by committing Seppuku.
