A Reindeer in the Kebnekaise valley, Lapland, Sweden. The scientific name of the Reindeer is Rangifer tarandus, and is also called the caribou in North America. The reindeer's most prominent feature is its antlers which can grow to various lengths, depending on the breed. Both male and female reindeers have antlers. Reindeers have become popular in folklore as the animals pulling the sleigh of Santa Claus. In Lapland, reindeers are used for pulling a transport or sled called "pulk".
