GullFoss Waterfalls is perhaps the most popular tourist's spot of Iceland. The fall has two drops and has a height of 32 meters. The waterfalls were owned by Tomas Tomasson and Halldor Halldorsson. During the twentieth century they tried renting the waterfall to a few foreign investors to generate electricity. However, Tomas's daughter was in favor of preserving the natural beauty of the waterfalls and threatens to commit a suicide if the partners went ahead with the plan. Hence a memorial in her honor was built on the top of waterfall.
